Praises for Prizes

"Janet Frame ranks as one of the great writers of our time"

(The L Magazine, New York)

The L Magazine reviewer notes "Frame's enormous range in voice and subject matter" and concludes that the collection Prizes: The Selected Stories of Janet Frame (Counterpoint, USA 2009) presents "a full and vibrant picture of Frame's tremendous gifts".

Denver Books Examiner rates Prizes at 5 Stars, saying the comprehensive selection of Frame's classic short stories (with the addition of some previously uncollected stories) succeeds in"showcasing her as a groundbreaking writer".

"Frame's graciously excoriating stories are iridescently alive"

(A rave review from the American Library Association's Booklist)

"Frame locates loneliness, fear and judgement... This is a fine look at Frame's life through her immortalizing fiction"

Hi Pamela,

Do you know if/where it is possible to obtain a copy of the Counterpoint edition of 'Prizes' in NZ? Cheers

The Counterpoint edition of PRIZES is the US edition, and is only avialable in the States and US territories. I guess if you want that edition you could order it from Amazon or another online source. But there is a New Zealand edition of PRIZES that has exactly the same selection of stories. It was published in 2009 and should be available from any good NZ bookstore.

For collectors who just must have every different edition, there will be quite some outlay to make as apart from the US and the NZ editions, there will also be an Australian edition of this selection (from Random House Australia) and a UK edition (from Virago). More news on that soon. There are also several translations in the pipeline.
