In 2003, the year before her death, Janet Frame was honoured with an inaugural Icon Award by the New Zealand Arts Foundation.

The Arts Foundation website maintains pages on all the recipients of their awards, including of course Janet Frame.

Pamela Gordon: A literary executor is the person entrusted with caring for the literary estate of a deceased author. How did I get to be Janet Frame's literary executor? Because she asked me to do it and I agreed. She was my aunt, and close friend. I had the relevant experience and post-grad qualifications for the job. I knew and loved her work. She appointed me as one of the founding trustees of her charitable trust, The Janet Frame Literary Trust, and named me as co-executor of her will.
